Join in and let's enjoy a new series of workshops or exchanges, performances and walks over Summer and Fall.
First Activity: KRAmp - a distributed field recording gathering - 16-18 August 2024
General orientation
Climate change, desertification, loss of biodiversity, ... It is daily in the media, EU is proposing new programs for a green approach esp. to the countryside. And it is certainly around us, also about us. In spring near Zastrán farmers were putting new drainage pipes in their fields, while the apples and plums are drying out on the trees. This year we had the warmest September on earth ever recorded (globally +1.5˚C!). Within these changes, water management is playing a crucial role today. One reads about international measures to capture and keep rainwater, protect groundwater, revitalize ponds and rivers by reconnecting them again, of course also reforestation and the return of (green) water energy! Regional history shows that until WW1 the Vysočina region was mainly using waterpower. Elsewhere water turbines have been successfully deployed instead of solar and wind devices, neutralizing the negative environmental impact, empowering small communities, and preserving bio diversity.
An outline
In 2024 KRA and ButtuLab are investigating how we can set up a program that is of interest for most of the local people confronted with necessary transitions: biofood, media and information, green socio-political and educational themes, citizen science, different local policies, alternative energy. It is more than the creation of awareness or motivation, rather a deeper sharing of skills and knowledge about the easiness as well the complexity of what is happening around us in a new rural development context. Throughout the activities (residencies local and international, open air performances, all-ages workshops and open lab sessions, presentations and discussions) we want to focus on new practices and skills in art/culture, reflecting innovating approaches in environmental and ecological thinking. In combination with recent advancements in AI and machine learning, this is already leading to a new definition of art, across age and gender, across disciplines and skills.
It's a plan, let's make it happen together!
A. WRITTEN IN WATER
or about creative-generative skills, an art-science program working with bioacoustics
• 1/ workshop DIY tools (e.g. turn your phone into a smart field recorder) and field trips
• 2/ field-recording and editing underwater soundscapes with hydrophones and hydromoths
• 3/ using smart apps (AI/ML) to analyse data, recognize living species and plants, abiotica
• 4/ exploring new creative tools e.g. descriptive based synthesis, interactions, streamboxes for performing
B. ON THE WATERFRONT
or about knowledge building and sensibility, a participative citizen-science program
• 1/ collecting an online shared library of relevant critical and scientific articles, movies, music, artworks, lectures
• 2/ discussion moments about ecology as a crisis of human sensibility
• 3/ explorative walks in threatened areas, with environmental monitoring
• 4/ ecomanagement advises to enhance local policies, industrial implementations, socio-cultural awareness, clean energy
